The Ramones were the hard-hitting New York punk band that erupted in nervy 1974 when a serial killer terrorised the city and civic bankruptcy loomed.

From their beginnings in Queens and the burgeoning punk scene at CBGB’s, through the excitement of their first album, a brush with Phil Spector and more than two thousand concerts over a 22 year period, The Ramones always were a force to be reckoned with.

This is their full story told in dramatic graphic style: the in-fighting, the deaths of three founding members, their influence on British bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash, the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and finally a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Gabba Gabba Hey: The Graphic Story of the Ramones has been created by author Jim McCarthy (Neverland, Tupac Shakur: Death Rap, Eminem: In My Skin, The Sex Pistols Graphic Novel, Godspeed: The Kurt Cobain Graphic and Voices Of Latin Rock) and artist Brian Williamson (Neverland, Dr Who, Torchwood, Primeval, 2000AD).

Rating Review
HEY HO LET'S GO! I love this new graphic from the Omnibus collection. Jim McCarthy & Brian have captured the spirit of the Ramones in a proper rock 'n' roll, punk comic book format. Wicked all ways.

This great looking graphic novel on The Ramones is well worth a read. If you only read one music graphic novel this year it should be this - superb.

"Set in New York during that gritty era, complete with CBGB and a practically bankrupt city, The Ramones' true story is nothing less than epic—a tale of not only a band, but of a moment in time. Through meticulous research, McCarthy pieced together the band's story. Indeed, the opportunity to combine his passions for music, biography, and the graphic art form adds up to the very definition of a labor of love. "The rise of graphic novel culture is both edifying and very much a part of my DNA already," McCarthy explains. "I love telling these iconic stories from different angles, perhaps with different writing tenses, and exploring in a 'cinematic' way the lives and cultures of these diverse musician. Music is an ocean, it depends how deeply you want to swim in it." Gotham Magazine, SIMONA RABINOVITCH
