PARTY: Omnibus Press celebrate ‘BUTTERFLY ON A WHEEL: THE GREAT ROLLING STONES DRUGS BUST’ by Simon Wells.
On the 45th anniversary of the fateful Rolling Stones drugs bust at Keith Richards’ house, Omnibus Press joined author Simon Wells and The Society Club, Soho at a party to celebrate Simon’s book ‘Butterfly On A Wheel: The Great Rolling Stone’s Drugs Bust’.
When Keith Richards threw a drug-fuelled party at his West Sussex house in early 1967, it was never going to be an uneventful affair. Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull were the star guests but the police came uninvited, so launching a legendary confrontation The Great Rolling Stones Drugs Bust.
What better way to recognise the bust’s 45th anniversary, than with an elaborate party in an incense filled Soho pub basement, hosted by The Society Club to celebrate Simon Wells’ book published by Omnibus Press on the subject?
Party guests were treated to 'Ruby Tuesday' and 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash' cocktails (in true Keith Richards style!) sponsored by Jack Daniels against a backdrop of Stones tracks and old video footage. Later Simon Wells gave an author talk about the book, not to mention a special surprise re-enactment of the courtroom scene: Keith Richards Vs Judge Block with Robert from The Society Club.
Thanks to everyone that joined us at the party and special thanks to The Society Club for hosting and The Sun & Thirteen Cantons for holding the event.

Butterfly on a Wheel uncovers fresh revelations about the most famous drugs bust in British rock history, documenting not only the raid and case but the late 1960s era of rock ‘n’ roll music and lifestyle. With fresh interviews with lawyers, police, eye-witnesses and those present at the notorious 1967 party, author Simon Wells reveals the truth about the celebrity drug pushers, London gangsters, bent cops, corrupt newspapers and dodgy politicians.
The Stones’ Drugs Bust is a counterculture landmark that not only hit news headlines with meteorite force but subsequently gave a voice to a budding rock ‘n’ roll generation.
Using previously unpublished and unexplored police and court documents, Wells uncovers for the first time what really happened on the night of the great Stones drugs raid. Simon untangles the extraordinary conspiracy mounted to end the careers of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and how the Establishment and the News of the World both strategically and corruptly widened their powerful net to drag in the Beatles and other rock stars, attempting the demise of rock ‘n’ roll as we know it.
